(All rates shown are for 3 hour work blocks.)
Ebook short story covers start at $25. That gets you a full resolution PNG and JPG with title treatment, PNG of the illustration, and transparent PNG of the title treatment alone for the inside cover. Most designs can be made in 3h or less. Price goes up if the complexity of the work requires a lot more time. I also do advertisements, A+ content, and character portraits.
For full-length ebooks, which I generally assume will be available as paperbacks as well, I can produce covers for a slightly higher cost. Price depends on format desired and complexity:
- A simple repeat of the cover plus a plain spine is easiest,
-A double-wide image tuned to the precise pixel dimension required by Amazon is rather more difficult.
-Audiobook images are square 1:1, and may be easier or may not be.
If you've got works you want published in tattooed-dead-tree format, but haven't ever prepped a manuscript for print, it can be a task and a half to muddle through and figure out. Or you can hire me to do it for you. No, I don't use Vellum, I make all the formatting changes directly into your docx manuscript and export a PDF that will upload cleanly to your preferred publishing site.
Struggling with your short story? I've edited seven anthologies to date, eighty-some stories in total, from brand-new never-before-written authors to seasoned pros.
While I'm not your guy for copy-editing (I will help with typos wherever I can, but proper grammar and comma splices are a weakness for me too) I am more than happy to read, critique, and do a developmental edit on your short story (~10K words or less).
I am available for consulting - IE teaching/instructing - for any of the above. Maybe you just need to be shown the formatting process once or twice so you can learn to do it yourself. Maybe you know how to make the art, but now how to turn it into something Amazon can use. I can teach you how I do the above, what programs I use, how to navigate Amazon's KDP interface to create cover art, ebooks and paperbacks.
Yes, I use AI-generated imagery to create my covers. I'm not an artist, at best I'm a moderately talented amateur graphic editor. The covers I make are generally built compositing images together that I've generated using Midjourney and sometimes stock art. If ensuring your cover can be copyrighted is an issue for you, then you'll probably want to go with a proper artist, and I don't blame you for it, though I believe my edits and compositing are generally enough to meet copyright threshold.
If either (both?) of the above items sound appealing to you, email me at ibson.writes@gmail.com and let's chat about what you need done. We'll work out the exact price, figure out billing, and I'll get to work.
